EXO-TECH is New York large ensemble collective formed by vocalist and musical director SOPHIA BROUS and New Zealand pop innovator KIMBRA in 2016. The group features a revolving membership of some of New York and beyond’s most respected music luminaries, exploring the intersections of improvisation and pop song composition. The group traverse musical worlds reminiscent of Talking Heads, Can, Gang Gang Dance and DNA, as much influenced by modern pop and experimental rnb, as by by free jazz, avant garde improvisation, tropicalia and film music.Created as opportunity for musician friends to play together in ecstatic, open creative settings in-the-round, each show is an musical experiment in collective presence, where an audience bares witness to a rich musical alchemy as thrilling for observers as it is for the ensemble members.
