In an evening of scientific insights and artistic dreams, we will be joined by astronomer and dark matter researcher Alan Duffy, alongside performer/composer Sophia Brous and sound artist and researcher Joel Stern who will perform their work (Space) Dream Triptych. Whether you see human existence as singular and exceptional, or as an ephemeral blip in a great void, the question of our role in the Universe is an enduring philosophical mystery. Looking into the depths of space, thinking about the great sweep of cosmic time and delving into the unconscious promises a dizzying ride towards our horizons of philosophical meaning.

(Space) Dream Triptych explores the realm of dreaming in infinite space. It is composed and created by vocalist, composer and interdisciplinary performer Sophia Brous, and composer, curator and academic Joel Stern on Buchla and analogue electronics.

(Space) Dream Triptych draws on texts from psychoanalytic patients recounting memories of dreams in the erotic interplanetary realm, US and Russian cosmonauts discussing their dreams in zero gravity, and the single dream immortalised by the 13th century visionary astronomer and philosopher Giovanni Bruno where he conceptualised the multi-planetary universe and was eventually burned at the stake for heresy.

(Space) Dream Triptych was originally commissioned and created for MPavilion and the City of Melbourne’s Melbourne Music Week in collaboration with The Telepathy Project’s Star Pavilion. It was performed with Marshall McGuire on harp.
