Fiora is a new creation for me, grown from a seed that has been dormant for a long while. She is a torch singer of an unclear time - the main attraction on board a cruise ship entertaining passengers as they make their way towards a utopian destination.
Fiora sings songs of bygone days - majestic epics of misspent youth and mythic rebeginning. She is a new world for me to play in, I have written the music, made a record and am starting the journey next week, in the flesh. Waking from a week of such deep joy and dreaming as we wrap `In Dreams: David Lynch Revisited` for now.
In many ways this show changed my life 11 years ago. It gave me the confidence to realise that I could step away from a path of female not-quite-pop recording artistβ’οΈ, and into a space of theatre, performance and curiosity that has nourished me for the past decade.
My dear friend and mentor @davidcoulter taught me that I could perform in opera houses and concert halls as an artist wishing to experiment and discover, which set my course to connect to creativity as a process, not just an outcome.
Returning to this show at this point feels very meaningful - like coming full circle - as next week I will be announcing the return to the project of solo singer in a new album, persona and live performance. A next phase, or a continuation of what was always there...

`Broken Chord`, a new collaborative work created with the wonderful Finnish artist @hans.rosenstrom is now on show at @helsinkicontemporary. The show is 7-channel installation of plexiglass panels broadcasting voices through transducers. Last year, Hans asked me if I would like to collaborate on a new piece exploring language, the body and the voice in-dislocation, and in December we went to the excellent @brewerystudios Berlin to record with @eugene_blove @allesheyward @6regor @holden.mad & @bodytopography. I created a series of scores made up of breaths, grunts, paralingual coos, word fragments and murmerations, and together we wove a world. Broken Chord is now on view until June 29 @helsinkicontemporary.
